While waiting to be rescued, FedEx parcels from the wrecked plane keep floating ashore and he makes creative use of them. The film is both humorous and touching, reminding us to take the time to remember the people who are important to us that we may take for granted.
Road to Perdition was filmed in 2002 and is the story of Mike Sullivan, a hit man for big crime boss John Rooney. Sullivan, played by Hanks, looks up to Rooney like a father, but when Sullivan’s son witnesses him doing a hit for Rooney everything changes for Sullivan. He finds himself on the run trying to save his son’s life and his own. The film takes place in Illinois during the Great Depression and has a dark cinematic style.
In Catch Me If You Can, Hanks play Carl Hanratty, a detective who relentlessly tries to catch con man Frank Abagnale Jr., played by Leonardo DiCaprio. In this true story, before the age of 19, Abagnale successfully conned millions of dollars pretending to be a doctor, pilot and lawyer, among other things. The screenplay was wonderfully written and Hanks and DiCaprio perform beautifully. The story is quite humorous and we don’t know if we should be rooting for the criminal or the law.
Lastly are The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. In these two films, based on the popular Dan Brown books, we follow Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon around Paris and the Vatican respectively as he hurriedly has to solve one mystery after another. Both movies are action pact and great care was taken to ensure their historical accuracy. Both were produced by the award-winning producer Ron Howard, and were huge box office successes.
